While in Durham, NC, I had the extreme pleasure to spend 3 days at
Relevance Software. I got to pair with some great people, including a day of Clojure coding with
Stuart Halloway, author of
Programming Clojure and co-owner of Relevance.
We spoke about Relevance's model as a lifestyle company, working with Clojure, and, of course, random other things.
Enjoy!

Another great interview Thanks, Corey. Stuart makes a lot of really interesting and important points throughout. I was even inspired enough to go check out Clojure.
I was particularly interested in Stuart's take on 20% time. I was always a little worried that 20% time tends to encourage people to work in an isoalted way, but having the entire company do 20% time at the /same/ time is one way to get both the innovation/creativity flowing and not lose the team-focused environment.
Thanks, James.
Yeah, Relevance's take on the 20% time is a great one. I was there for an "Open Source Friday," and it really worked well; everyone was engaged and still working together.
Very cool interview. I like the informalness of these interviews. I have his programming clojure on the shelf waiting to be read after I finish the current book I'm reading.
I like Stuart's take on 20% working on Open Source or investigating new languages/idea.
The most dangerous infestion for software developers are "skill-rot".
I have read his classic "Component Development for the Java Platform" - though dated, but still a great read for insights.
I have Scala on my bookshelf.
Now, I will give Clojure a second look.
